Mahatma Gandhi once said: Be the change you want to see in the world.
On July 26, 2005, when almost the entire city of Mumbai got submerged due to torrential rains, I was one of the thousands who had got stranded in the middle of that deluge. Treading cautiously in the floodwaters, I barely survived that night. Later, when I got to the bottom of the cause for such catastrophic water clogging, I was stumped to realise - one of the core reasons was plastic bag waste. Thereon, I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world.
In the forthcoming years, my team and I started a company called Red Deer Non-Woven Bags. When we dived deeper into this business, research showed non-woven bags were more harmful to our environment than plastic bags. We shut shop and went back to the drawing board. Then again, I decided to be the change I wanted to see in the world.
Of course, producing paper bags was not an option as that meant cutting down trees. We had to bring to the market a product that would celebrate Mother Earth’s richness and serve our purpose. It had to be a win-win for both. Bio-degradable, nature-friendly, long-lasting, reusable cloth bags emerged to be the best option.
From producing 5000 cloth bags at one point to manufacturing over ONE CRORE on a monthly basis, we have over 8000 women across India, supporting us in our mission.
In 2020, when the COVID 19 pandemic hit everyone on a global scale, we worked closely with a few state governments to supply over a crore bags per month so necessities could be distributed in our bags to people who were affected during this pandemic.
Though now people are more aware of how our planet is being abused, and many are taking effective steps to do the needful, a lot more needs to be done.

Number of plastic bags used yearly, worldwide: approximately 500 billion
Number of plastic bags used per minute, worldwide: more than 1 million
Given these figures, we still have a long way to go.
